What did you study before entering Alfa Lavals trainee program?

I studied Master of Science in Energy, Environment and Management. With my Master's degree in Energy and Environmental engineering at Linköping University in Sweden.

What sparked your interest to apply for Alfa Lavals Trainee program?

One of the biggest aspects of the Alfa Laval Trainee program was the opportunity to work within different departments, which made it easier to find a future workplace that fits my strengths and my areas of interest. Coming straight from university can sometimes be quite overwhelming if you are not really sure what you want to work with, and the structure of the Alfa Laval trainee program was a perfect fit for me since it was easier for me to find my "call" in the work life.

Furthermore, the possibility to have a module abroad during the trainee program, to get that international experience. Another aspect was the strength of Alfa Laval, its global presence and its strengths within the fields of sustainability.

What was your highlights of the trainee program?

My key highlight of the program has been "the other trainees". The relationships, friendships and connection that we have built together. Another highlight is the possibility to work, to some extent, with almost all my colleagues overlapping most of the major departments in Tumba. Building that network made it easier for me to transition to my current role after the trainee program.

Who would enjoy and benefit from our trainee program the most?

Students with a master of science degree, with a mix of a engineering and a commercial/business point of view. Maybe leaning a little bit more towards the business side, since most of the tasks we've done during the modules has been more focused on business and management.

What sort of role did you enter after the program?

I currently work as a Service Sales Developer, which means I work daily with business development to make life easier for our sales companies all over the world.

What did you study before entering Alfa Lavals trainee program?

I studied Mechanical Engineering with a master within Operations Management at Linköping University

What sparked your interest to apply for Alfa Lavals Trainee program?

I like that Alfa Laval is an international company with great opportunities to travel and work abroad. Also, I think it is exciting that they have such a large product portfolio of technical solutions within different industries. When I graduated I was not sure what I wanted to work with, so the trainee program at Alfa Laval was perfect since it allowed me to try different roles within the company.

What was your highlights of the trainee program?

I have many highlights from the trainee program! One of them is when I was working in the capital sales team for marine separators. Me and my trainee colleague investigated the potential of new fuels in the marine industry including hydrogen, ammonia, methanol, and biofuels. We got to present our findings for a large audience which was very exciting.

Later, when I was in the Service team I got the opportunity to travel to our site in Italy to participate in a test of our fuel supply system for methanol. Another highlight will come soon when I will spend one month in Paris as the last module of the trainee program. Due to the pandemic we needed to postpone the abroad period, so I am really happy that we finally can make it happen.

Who would enjoy and benefit from our trainee program the most?

I think the trainee program can suit anyone who is curious about technology and enjoy being challenged in different projects. It is positive if you are social and like to meet new people.

What sort of role did you enter after the program?

After the trainee program I started as a Strategic Marketing & Product Analyst in the capital sales team for marine separators. In my role I am using data to monitor what is happening in the market. It is a new role in my team which is fun since I get to influence what my main tasks should be.

What did you study before entering Alfa Lavals trainee program?

Chemical Engineering at Lund University

What sparked your interest to apply for Alfa Lavals Trainee program?

Starting my career I was very keen on getting a broad understanding of how a large organization such as Alfa Laval is structured. Starting a trainee program is a great way of getting introduced to a company, where you get the possibility to see a lot and learn a lot. Alfa Laval is a diverse and multinational company with a large and complex product portfolio, which really caught my interest.

What was your highlights of the trainee program?

The whole journey have been the best part! To get to meet so many great people, and establish relationships all over the organization. This is something I personally value very high, and bring with me from the trainee journey.

Who would enjoy and benefit from our trainee program the most?

Someone who is interested in gaining this broad perspective and understanding of how an organization is structured and the constituting parts of it. This is an opportunity where you speed through the entire organization - which benefits someone who is curious and eager to learn a lot!

What sort of role did you enter after the program?

I now have the role as a Product & Portfolio Manager, Modernization. This means that I am responsible for modernizing our installed base of separators, while developing and packaging our product portfolio. Extremely fun and developing!

What did you study before entering Alfa Lavals trainee program?

Mechanical engineering in Lund

What sparked your interest to apply for Alfa Lavals Trainee program?

Both the company and the actual program attracted me. The company because it is a big company with many different areas which gives you good opportunities to develop and explore different paths within the company. It was also important to me that the company had a strong sustainability focus, which Alfa Laval has. With the trainee program I liked that it had a width and openness to it. We get to try out many different areas and our future role after the program isn't decided until the end of the program, so you have a chance to explore the organization before that decision. The period abroad was something I was drawn to too.

What has been your highlights of the program so far?

I'm on my second module right now and one big highlight so far has been to meet and work with a lot of different people.

In the trainee program you get a really good network with a lot of great people who are all very open to share their knowledge. I also got the opportunity to go to Aalborg with one of my projects, which was a lot of fun and very educational to get to see another site and meet the people I worked with in Aalborg in person.

Who would enjoy and benefit from our trainee program the most?

Someone who is curious, driven, and likes to meet a lot of new people.

What did you study before entering Alfa Lavals trainee program?

I studied chemical engineering at Uppsala university, where I specialized in the field of material sciences.

What sparked your interest to apply for Alfa Lavals Trainee program?

During my last year of studies I had decided that I wanted to try and go the route of starting my career as a trainee. I thought it would be a good opportunity to try out and learn new skills that was outside my area of expertise gained from university studies. As I was interested to go into the field of industry, Alfa Laval piqued my interest. I had heard of Alfa Laval as a company before (At that point primarily heard of milk separators and heat exchangers) but was not aware then of the wide array of technological solutions that Alfa Laval provides. The broadness of the program, being able to move around with the modules throughout much of the organisation within the division, was one of the things that attracted me. I think it gives a good scope of things that is going on within the organisation. Another thing that attracted me was the opportunity to join a global corporation that offered an international module.

What has been your highlights of the program so far

Being able to join one of my supervisors of one module for a supplier visit and participate in the technical discussions which dictated the future welding design of that product. It was a real learning experience joining the senior designers out in the field. I learn most effectively by getting close to the product or problem at hand so i enjoy doing factory visits, vessel inspections etc. Now as the restrictions are being dropped we have more visits in the pipeline.

Who would enjoy and benefit from our trainee program the most?

I would say anyone with an engineering background would be able to relate to our products somewhat, the most important attribute is to be curious and not be hesitant to ask people. During the trainee program you will meet many people with a great deal experience and knowledge, who gladly tell you all they know as long as you show interest.
